Chronicles of Yaowarat Road | China Town | Bangkok, Thailand | Foodie's Paradise

Namaste,

Hope everyone is doing good. 🙂

Today I am writing a blog on Bangkok's Chinatown, a place where the hustle and bustle of the day market and night food are a crowd-pleaser and crowd-puller for tourists the world over!!

Yaowarat Road Night Life

About the Place

As our hostel Rest is More was in Bangkok so we could make our way to Chinatown couple of times which is undoubtedly a place for foodie's paradise in so many ways. Chinatown is commonly known as “Yaowarat”. It is a working Chinatown with two diverse atmospheres. The Chinatown Bangkok is a market in the morning and a enormous open-air food market by evening. Yaowarat Road is Chinatown’s main street surrounded by a lively ambience of gold shops, cosmetics, restaurants, herbal pharmacies, and streets lightened up with neon lights.

The Hustle and Bustle of Chinatown

Transport

The most convenient way to reach Chinatown is to take the MRT and go to Hua Lamphong station. Hua Lamphong station is the last station on the MRT blue line (subway) and is just a 10 minutes’ walk to Chinatown. You can take the Chao Phraya Express Boat service from Saphan Taksin BTS-station or Rattanakosin and hop across the river on a ferry as it’s only a short walk from the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The boat trip offers you the chance to see more of Bangkok and will take hardly twenty minutes. Taxis are least recommended and varies from all locations in and around Bangkok as traffic is usually at its peak around Chinatown. For short destinations, taxis are good to go.

Chinatown never really sleeps!!

 Places to explore in Chinatown

The dining and shopping places are definitely the most famous attractions of Chinatown but there are some other wonderful places to explore in Chinatown. I am listing out some of them.

Ø Yaoworat Road at Night – Street food
Ø Sampheng Lane and the Street Markets
Ø The Guan Yin Shrine
Ø Prison Corrections Museum
Ø Wat Mangkon Kamalawat Temple
Ø Attend a Chinese Opera performance
Ø Jek Pui street food

One of the food item from Michelin Star rated street food

Trust me there are many more to this list. It all depends on what you want to explore and your interests…!!!

My friend right next to one of the most highly rated street vendor in Chinatown. Do visit!!

My experience in Chinatown

We had the chance to try out some awesomely delicious food of different varieties at the hub of Thailand's China town, famous all around the world for its street food.

You have 100s of food varities in Chinatown!!

As described by all the food bloggers this place is a foodie's paradise. Even though I am not a foodie (history-lover), I still enjoyed each and every cuisine I tried and let me tell you they were so lip-smacking, appetizing and mouth-watering. A must-go hangout place for the ones who loves Asian food or would love to try new varieties.

We could collect some pictures of the intensely coloured and beautifully lightened streets with tourists spread out in all the corners. Moreover, my friend informed me that in Thailand even the chefs who prepares in the street have been awarded with Michelin Star. You can check them out in some of the pictures.

Somewhere inside Yaowarat Road

For those of you who dont know what Michelin Star is (even I didn't before this trip), according to Wikipedia "Michelin stars are a rating system used by the red Michelin Guide to grade restaurants on their quality. ... According to the Guide, one star signifies "a very good restaurant", two stars are "excellent cooking that is worth a detour", and three stars mean "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey".

The food scene in Chinatown is quite overwhelming and having a guide to help you navigate your way is quite helpful if you are reluctant to do it solo which you should do as well. Hope you can get to Bangkok soon fellow travellers.

Budget

Do visit this incredibly busy area in central Bangkok if you are visiting Thailand.  surrounded with tourists, herbal shops, cars, tuk-tuks and probably with almost any type of Asian food that you could possibly imagine. The prices of the food items are extremely cheap as it starts from 10 Thai Baht depending upon your preferences and healthy. You will get huge portion of duck ramen for about 50 Thai Baht and a whole pineapple for 20 Thai Baht. You can find all kinds of fruits, such as grapes and cherries for a lot less than in a supermarket.

Accommodation

As a hostel lover, we stayed in Rest is More in Bangkok and nearby places around the hostel includes the temple of the Golden Mount which is a 10-minute walk and Khao San Road also known as the bagpacker's partying and chilling hub and is just 2 kms.

For unique accommodations close to foodie’s paradise Chinatown, exploring colourful night scenes in Bangkok, book your stay at Rest is More.

Pheww!!! There I am !!! :)
